Friday Fun: Icy Play
This post is dedicated to my friend E, without whom I would never have made a newspaper tent, or discovered the joy of water beads, or spent two hours house-hopping for steals on my first real garage sale outing.
I would never have listened to a song by an alternative band about the sun being so hot that most of its gas is really plasma—the fourth state of matter.
And I would not have discovered yet another “entertain them for hours” play activity that’s so easy to put together:

Yeap, you’re looking at an ice block with toys in it. Make sure it’s frozen solid, then hand the blocks over to your kiddos with a chipping tool (we used paintbrushes and forks). Congratulations! You’ve just bought yourself at least 45 minutes to sip coffee or even take a nap.

Thank you E, for being a generous friend, and for showing us so many ways to have fun. You really have changed our lives. :)

INGENIOUS idea!!! I gotta try this out one day!
(When I need 30 minutes to myself…)

Love this idea! And I won’t be surprised if my kids end up licking the ice block :)

Can’t wait to try this when Matt’s older!

It is really fun just watching the kids attack the ice. And amazing to see how long they will keep at it!
Joce: maybe you can freeze strawberries instead!
